Everyone loves music. Sure, it's a given. People have their favorite bands, genres, albums, etc. But with the Internet as it is today, you'd think the populations general tastes (at least with my generation) would be a tab more eclectic. But nope, all we get is hip-hop, country, and rock. Those three genres essentially have the whole damn monopoly over our tastes these days. I mean sure you'll get those who love dance music or techno. But I think that as a general public, we should broaden our horizons a bit.
Show a little love.
Swing/Jazz:
Sure the first thing you think of when you hear "jazz" is old guys playing sax. And that's totally what it is. But that's the beauty of it. It's the roots of a lot of our music and it just sounds classy. Whenever I play some Frank Sinatra or swing jazz in my car, my friends lighten up a little bit with the change of pace. Often it's found rather refreshing. Which it is. It sounds good and it makes you look classier for listening to it. All these posts are based on personal preference of course but this genre needs to get a little more attention these days. A definite change in pace from the boring ol' 4 on the floor beats and dumb-ass lyrics.
House:
This genre is actually some decent exposure. But I still believe it could be doing so much better. It's the main music heard in clubs and bars in the rest of the world, but is completely ignored here in the states. It just makes you want to get up and move. And yeah, I know. I was dissin' the "4 on the floor" patter in the last section, but this is different. Let this music shine through a bit! There's a reason it's popular elsewhere.
Soul:
This genre is exactly what the name implies. It sounds large, in charge, and so full of emotion compared to other genres. Songs about love and drugs same shit as always it just sounds so much more powerful. Jazz rhythms in back and such solid vocals make this a genre that should have more attention. And recently it's been getting better with Cee-Lo Green's latest album release.
Classical:
This is not exactly what it sounds like, but I don't know how better word it. There'd be nothing wrong with giving a listen to Mozart here and there, but what I'm talking about is more modern adaptations of the classical instruments. It gives a new appreciation for an instrument like a cello when you can see how much it can rock. And we need to realize just how fucking cool a great violinist can be. And not spend time calling the kids who play them "geeks". 2Cellos does a pretty good job of exploiting this. As well as other accomplished musicians.
Have fun listening!! And tell me what genre's you think people should listen more to!
